We are a great team that loves working together in a friendly, fun and open environment.
This is the McKenzie+Co team on one of our annual social club outings. Keeping to our theme of Rambo / Camouflage, we dressed up and took a trip to Dunedin where we completed an Amazing Race challenge. What better people could you enjoy dressing up, dancing and singing with (what happens on tour, stays on tour)!
Fraser’s passion is anything rural. He has been specialising in farm accounting and advisory work for 25 years. “Rural businesses are different, to get it right you need to understand the nature of farming and the people involved, it is complex, the business of the family is intertwined with the family business.”
While all aspects of the work are challenging, Fraser particularly enjoys getting the structure and governance of rural businesses right, making sure time is spent planning with clients, not only for those who may be looking for succession options, but those starting their farming careers and wanting to progress.
Nicole has previously worked in a rural accounting firm and at the ANZ bank (Commercial & Agri department). Nicole was raised on a sheep & beef farm South of Balclutha. The farm has, in part, been converted to Dairy. She enjoys helping out, although she is yet to milk a cow! In her spare time Nicole enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband Alex, bush walking and exploring new places as well as sewing (our very own Trelise Cooper). They have lived in Canterbury for 4 years but are looking forward to relocating back to Otago along with their 3 pets.
Michelle brings together her international experience in business analysis and project management to help clients improve processes. Within McKenzie+Co, Michelle is charged with “making it happen” and keeping us focused on our goals. Never afraid of mischief, Michelle makes sure there is fun in the office and at social events. Outside of work Michelle is a mum to two young children and she enjoys being involved with the Oamaru Swim Club and North Otago Athletics Association.
With over 125 years of collective industry experience, you couldn’t be in safer hands. Clients are paired with the accountant who has the right skills and knowledge to get the best out of their business.
Debbie is our longest serving team member and has a level of skill and experiences to match. While Debbie can do most things, she focuses her expertise on farming. Debbie’s longevity extends to her clients who she has a close friendly relationship with and would hope that her clients feel the same as she works very hard on their behalf.
Claire is a qualified Accounting Technician and has many years of experience in Chartered Accountancy firms which she has brought back to her home town of Oamaru. At McKenzie+Co Claire deals mostly with our Trusts and Estates, Partnerships and investment clients. Outside of work Claire enjoys the outdoors, is an avid animal lover and an accomplished dancer.
Angela has been part of the team since 2012. With a decade of experience in other local accounting firms prior to this, she is experienced in several software packages and is always on hand to help. In her spare time she is busy with her family, learning the piano, and her miniature schnauzer.
Abby lives on a life-style block on the outskirts of Oamaru with her husband, two young daughters and son. She has a farming background and recently completed her Associate Chartered Accountant qualifications. Abby mainly works from home these days as she combines work with motherhood.
Daniel lives in Waimate and has to keep quiet every time Canterbury wins the rugby. Having run his own business and managed operations in Europe, he is keen to combine his accounting degree and experience to help other business owners run and grow better businesses. When not digging large divots in the golf course, Daniel enjoys brewing beer and sharing it with friends and family, however we have not seen any evidence of this at our social functions!.
Tracey is a Chartered Accountant working with clients and also manages our in-house accounting. She returned to her home town of Oamaru with husband Richard and two children after 15 years working in London and Auckland. Outside the office, she enjoys reading, running and looks after her family on a life-style block in Weston.
Ankita is currently on Maternity Leave. Normally Ankita works remotely from New Plymouth and is a Chartered Accountant qualified in India and New Zealand. Although the weather is a little cooler than Ankita is used to, she loves New Zealand and has made plenty of friends here. She enjoys traveling, music and is a keen classical singer.
Jill is a born and bred Oamaru girl who returned here after a brief stint of travel overseas. Along with working towards becoming a Chartered Accountant, Jill is the accountant who makes sure software works smoothly. Her three young girls keep her busy, but in her spare time Jill loves to run (fast shuffle), spend time in her vegetable garden or undertake some DIY house project.
Abbey is a Chartered Accountant and has come home to Oamaru after her time studying and working in Dunedin. She is comfortable with many software systems and has helped many clients with software training. Outside of work Abbey enjoys travelling to shows and concerts, combat training at the gym, as well as a range of hunting and fishing activities.
Kelly works remotely as a Senior Accountant from her home in Invercargill where she lives with her husband. She has previously worked at a CA firm in Gore for 22 years at a Senior Accountant level which included Reviewing and working directly with Agribusiness clients. She is a keen squash player/coach and owns a 200ha dairy cattle grazing farm located at Arthurton, 20 mins North of Gore.
Megan has a Commerce degree from Lincoln University bringing together her studies and a semi-rural upbringing, Megan has a good understanding of rural businesses and is keen to help on any agricultural related projects. Although this keeps Megan busy, she likes to spend her free time with family and friends and particularly likes our local lakes.
Tax compliance is an important part of the services we provide to our clients; taxation laws are increasingly complex and ever-changing. Our Tax Team are 100% committed to accuracy, meeting deadlines and achieving the best outcome for every client.
Kay heads our Tax Team, a position where she excels. We all rely on Kay’s extensive knowledge of complex tax matters. With the ever-changing tax environment she has her work cut out for her. Kay spends her well-deserved time off with her ‘grown-up’ family, gardening and baking.
Officially, Andrea is the other half of our Tax Team. Unofficially she is proficient at most things and always happy to give it a go. Andrea keeps on top of our tax administration and client payroll processing. Outside of work Andrea enjoys time spent with family, Church and watching movies.
Technology and Innovation
With technological change creating opportunities for business to become more effective and efficient you can be sure we are keeping you up with the changes. Our technology focused team members are constantly searching for better solutions for business and are here to offer support when needed.
Karen is our “non-resident” technology expert as well as one of our Internal Quality Assurance reviewers, checking our accountants are following industry guidelines as well as tax legislation and after moving from Oamaru has continued to work for us remotely. Karen makes sure we are utilising technology and is passionate about good software solutions for our clients. She has a vast wealth of knowledge on a range of software products and draws on many years of experience in various roles in Chartered Accountancy firms. Karen enjoys travelling and getting away in her motor home when she can.
Olivia is one of our Accountants as well as being our “non-resident” Xero expert who has returned to our team after some time abroad and working for Chartered Accountants in Hamilton and the Bay of Plenty. Olivia grew up in Oamaru and she has a keen interest in plants & photography, which she pursues in her spare time. Olivia has plenty of experience on Xero and is keen to help clients make the most of the software opportunities available.
Now you can put a face to the voices who answer our office line. Both front-of-house and behind-the-scenes tasks are completed with professionalism and smiles by our Administration Team.
Jennie is our gatekeeper. She has a talent for making everyone smile when they come in the door. We rely on Jennie for support to the accounting team and clients alike. She fulfills many administration services across McKenzie+Co. She is also Fraser’s “go to girl” and keeps him on the straight & narrow. Outside of work Jennie enjoys traveling with her husband, spending time with family & friends and enjoying life.
Simoné is the other half of our reception team, supporting all departments within McKenzie+Co and clients alike. Simoné is our Workflow Co-ordinator making sure that your Annual Accounts processing is on track. When not at work Simoné loves to bake and experiment with new recipes (uploading them in the hopes that Nigella Lawson will follow her on Instagram) and relaxing with her family.
Fleur continues to take charge of Accounts Receivables and is very proud to be our Projects and Sales & Marketing Administrator. Fleur also supports all departments within McKenzie+Co, willing to give anything a red hot go. Outside of work Fleur loves spending time with her ever increasing family, hiking and most things fitness and volunteering for a couple of local community groups.
Bex is an Oamaru girl at heart and is our Xero Projects Administrator. Bex’s job is converting our internal accounting software onto Xero as McKenzie+Co moves to cloud based software systems to keep up with the times. Bex loves spending time with her family and friends. Her favourite hobbies are Netflix, camping, boating, socialising and family time. Bex happily took on the position at McKenzie+Co as we have “Friday Lolly Day”!
